The "Beardie"
Bearded Collies are part of the herding group, along with Rough Collies, Border Collies and Smooth Collies. Although there seems to be some dispute as to the ancestry of this breed, similar dogs have been working in Scotland for many years. Once, these working dogs spent their days in the freezing cold, herding and running, jumping over any obstacles in their way! Today they are popular as show dogs, and are often seen in the Agility and Jumping arenas! I think that this is one of the most versatile and intelligent breeds. Character: These dogs should be steady and intelligent workers, without nervousness and timid disposition. Aggression is not an ideal trait! Care: Much grooming required, due to the silky, long coat. Exercise is very important and this kind of dog would suit someone wanting to train or go for regular long walks and runs. Special note: The tail is carried low, and NEVER over the back! |
