Halting Operations in Gauteng: A tough decision day for us

We're a small, women-owned company with some pretty big dreams! We believe every pup deserves the freshest, most delicious, nutrient-packed, and sustainable meals. That's why we're dedicated to creating the highest quality meals delivered fresh to our customers and their beloved doggos!

Our overriding passion is to help our furry companions live healthier, happier and longer lives, but we also care deeply about the people we work with. This is why we empower local farmers/fishers who supply us with organic and sustainable ingredients, with minimal impact on the environment. 

Pets. People. Planet. These are the core values we strive to uphold at all times.

We are so grateful that there are so many dog owners out there who share our commitment to providing only the best for their hounds. Indeed, the response from the market in Gauteng, in particular, has been truly overwhelming, as more and more people discover the difference that diet can make to a dog’s wellbeing.

Perhaps counter-intuitively, this phenomenal growth has had a detrimental impact on our service offering to our Gauteng clients over the past two months. While we are so grateful for the incredible support, we're aware that this pace of the growth has meant we are not meeting our Happy Hounds standards of service, or our customers. Not only has our kitchen in Cape Town struggled to produce the quantity and variety of orders we have been receiving, but delivering frozen meals in good time across the region has also been a challenge.

Providing excellent customer service is as important to us as providing top quality meals. And we are determined to put pets, their owners and our planet ahead of profit.

So, it is with a heavy heart that we have made the tough decision to halt the delivery of Happy Hounds meals in Gauteng, so we can bring our focus closer to home and grow our capacity for our eventual return. This will be effective from the 22nd March 2024 until such a time that we are confident we can consistently meet the high standards our customers and their pets deserve.

We are doing our best to manage this process as fairly and transparently as possible, and have put the following plans in place ahead of the final Gauteng delivery date of 22nd March:

We are also in discussions with our Gauteng stockists to see how we can ensure that our Gauteng customers will still be able to purchase our Happy Hounds meals after March.

While we understand that the halting of our Gauteng delivery service will be very sad news for our wonderful customers in the province, we know it is the right decision. We want to grow the Happy Hounds family sustainably and successfully over the longer-term. We must ensure that we continue providing the highest quality fresh food to our customers and their dogs, while also protecting the environment and supporting the local farmers/fishers who rely on us. 

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our amazing customers in Gauteng for their incredible support over the past year, we will really miss the regular interactions we had with many of them. We hope to start delivering meals to the region again as soon as we can.
